Social and cultural normatives often lead us to stigmatize that which is seemingly unknown or misunderstood. They make us want to categorize certain behaviours or emotions in hope for security and comfort. Experiences with the individual psyche lead to equally subjective worlds of reality that know neither age restrictions nor gender boundaries. Nevertheless, stigmas and taboos always arise in confrontation with what we have not experienced ourselves or cannot comprehend.

The sound installation was developed connecting randomized sound clips that were extracted from the interviews held for the project. With the help of a special program, sound artist Fabian Bentrup (Folkwang Universität der Künste, Essen) designed the sound installation by using sounds that the participants were making while taking a break from speaking (i.e. swallowing, breathing, sighing, sobbing etc.). The work also includes a Closed Circuit Installation that mirrors the audience’s appearence with a 10 second delay to set focus on unconscoius behaviours such as fidgeting or playing with your hair or clothing.
